In manchen Gegenden durchziehen sie das ganze Land, dann sieht man sie wieder gar nicht. Vielleicht bekommst du im Herbst Ackersenf zu sehen :-) Leuchtet auch schön. LG Almuth

I like the progression of views in the 3rd, 4th and 5th photos. This is such a strong memory from our trip last April, seeing the yellow fields. A good memory! Though I see very few fields of rapeseed here, it’s all over the roadsides, having escaped cultivation many, many years ago, and the yellow flowers are so cheerful. I just read about the problems with seed production in this area. Farmers here grow lots of cabbage and certain related plants for their seed (our small county produces 25% of the world’s cabbage seed!). There are problems with disease and seeds that aren’t the true species, so they have a kind of quarantine – I think it restricts how close fields with plants in certain families, like the Brassicas, can be planted to other fields with the same family. I can’t figure out more than that without spending all morning reading. ;-)

Thank you. I think I can imagine what you mean about the problems in the agriculture. Probably they try to avoid infection of other plants? – You have lots of genetically engineered plants in the US, don’t you? I am glad the yellow fields are a happy memory for you :-) It is always a cheerful view. In autum they often grow mustard on the fields as a catch crop, which looks quite similar and is beautiful too. Rapeseed is often in birdfood so I have a plant of it on my balcony :-)

Yes, they’re trying to avoid infection or contamination. They don’t want to sell the wrong seeds. There are lots of genetically engineered plants in big business agriculture, but I like to think it’s not that prevalent here. I’m not sure though. The agriculture business in our area is smaller and more thoughtful than it is in some other places – again, at least I like to think that’s true. In birdfood – does it get there by mistake or is it added to birdseed mixes? I think the plant that I see sprouting most often under the bird feeder is millet.

Millet is often used, but also hemper and other seed like Brassica. Hemper is not allowed to grow, altough they put the harmless kind into the birdseed and it happens that it is growing in your garden. Crazy, isn’t it?! So why do they use it for birdseed??? – Maybe you are lucky that they grow biological food in your area. I hope so! Most people here don’t appreciate it. I see danger in using it. If there is a „mistake“ in the genetic plant it will escape to nature and you can’t turn it back then. It may influence many individuals. It already happened and it is happening.

I agree. I wish they wouldn’t use genetically modified crops and so much pesticide, and there are too many huge single-crop farms. It’s better here than in some parts of the country – people are more interested in what we call „organic“ foods.

Ach, diese gelben Felder sind einfach immer eine große Freude. Wir haben diese Jahr ja sehr viele Rapsfelder in direkter Wohnnähe. Umso überraschter war ich, als ich heute las, dass der Rapsanbau in SH stark zurückgeht und weiter zurück gehen wird, u.a. wegen des Verbots bestimmter Pflanzenschutzmittel. Wo wird das alles noch hinführen? Umso mehr werde ich in den kommenden Tagen diese gelben Flächen genießen.

Dazu muß ich mal lesen. Ich weiß nur, daß es verschiedene Sorten gibt. Die 00-Rapssorte führt bei jungen Rehen zum Tod, weil sie diese nicht verdauen können. Mußt du mal gucken bei https://de.wikipedia.org/wiki/Raps
Dann mußt du wohl deinen eigenen Garten zum Rapsfeld machen. Manches ist zwiespältig. Wenn man für den Anbau große Mengen von Pestiziden benötigt, ist das kontraproduktiv würde ich sagen, aber ich weiß darüber zu wenig. Immerhin gibt es im Herbst häufig den Ackersenf :-)

Ja, ich weiß erst recht zu wenig. Aber das ändert sich mit den Jahren ja vielleicht noch. Ich hatte das auf der Seite des ndr gelesen. Der Hauptgrund ist aber, wie leider häufig, der zu niedrige Verkaufspreis. Da läuft ja nunmal auch etwas schief. Ein Lebensmittel ist kein Wirtschaftsgut, damit darf nicht gehandelt werden. Und die Deutschen sollten mal darüber nachdenken, mehr Geld für Lebensmittel auszugeben. Ein bisschen mehr Wertschätzung erfahren Bauern, gerade die mit Hofladen, ja zur Zeit, aber wird das so bleiben? Das mit den Rehen wusste ich tatsächlich noch nicht und ob hier irgendwo, Ackersenf angebaut wird, werde ich diese Jahr mal beobachten.

Ich glaube, daß ist alles etwas komplexer, aber ich wiederhole mich, richtig Ahnung habe ich nicht. Ich meine, daß ein Teil des Rapses für den Biodiesel produziert wird, was früher subventioniert wurde und nun wohl nicht mehr oder anders(?). Auch etwas umstritten, Lebensmittel(anbauflächen) für Kraftstoff zu nutzen. Mit den Lebensmittelpreisen hast du sicherlich recht. Die sind die letzten 15-20 Jahre vielfach gesunken, wobei ich denke, es gehören immer zwei dazu. Verbraucher wie Produzenten sollten bereit sein, höhere Preise zu zahlen bzw. zu nehmen. Oft genug lassen sich Produzenten unter Druck setzen, wo ich mir wünschen würde, daß die sich zusammentun und sich dann bei den Großkunden für gerechte Preise einsetzen (siehe Milch – warum es nicht möglich ist, wenigstens! 10 bis 20 cent mehr für den Liter zu zahlen, ist mir ein Rätsel!!). Ich kaufe Biomilch einer Erzeugergemeinschaft und hoffe, daß der teurere Preis stimmt. Immerhin jobben viele Menschen jetzt in der Landwirtschaft und lernen die langwierigen Prozesse kennen und schätzen. Vielleicht sollte jeder Mensch mal 4 Wochen Praktikum in der Landwirtschaft machen. Das könnte helfen…
